A couple of months ago I decided I wanted to feed the outside birds. I’m also always looking for new ways to entertain the cats. I found this on Amazon and realized I could do both at the same time!
At the time, the price was $29 and I didn’t want to spend that much. So… I bought a $12 sheet of plexi from Home Depot, some leftover, thicker plexi from another project, some suctions cups from my stock, and made my own! Mine is actually bigger than the one commercially sold, although arguably not as pretty. Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures or video of the build process (because I always forget I have a blog!). But really it was just a matter of cutting the plexi up, using a hot glue gun to tack it together one piece at a time, and then sealing it all together with silicone sealer glue. Finally, drilling a few holes and adding the suction cups.
I mounted the feeder in front of the dining room window next to the cat tree. The feeder can be filled by either popping the window open in cleaning mode (tilt-in), or by going outside. The roof and sides keep the seed dry and there is plenty of space for birds to hang out in the three sections. Now we just have to wait for the birds to notice. Build time was about 1.5 hours, not including drying time.
